He's noticed.

[ One who Emma misses every day, but that's not what David means and they both know it. Honestly, she's surprised he held out as long as he did. This is exactly the kind of thing she expected him to mention.]

and what did you tell him?

( for his part, Graham isn't sure what to say. or think. or feel. he has a step son that he hasn't properly met yet — he knows Henry yet a distant sheriff isn't quite the same as the man who married his mother and that's plenty to worry about to begin with. he hasn't thought past finding a place in Henry's life, as far as children go. hasn't even thought to imagine past.

I said that if it was ever something that the three of us wanted, maybe we'd go for it.

[ Right now, all she wants is her son back. She keeps thinking that's what they'll have when they go home, a place where she can be a mother and a wife and a daughter all at once. But David's joke about having the same number of dogs and children caught her off guard at first.

She wasn't thinking about it until then. Suddenly, she's looking a little farther into the future.]

( it's not to say he hasn't considered their future together. he does, and he doesn't hide his thoughts either. he's made the suggestion he live on his own long enough for Henry to grow comfortable with the idea of his mother marrying. he's found himself quite determined to have a place that is their own, a concept of home he's only started to build recently. he wants to find a way to be a part of her family without overstepping any boundaries — and in a family so complex sometimes that seems easier said than done.

more family than what she already had? It honestly hasn't occurred to him. perhaps it should have before his in laws brought it up, but it hasn't. )

I've never really considered it before. It is a little strange to consider, but not a bad strange.

[sheriffing]

Like I said, it'd have to be something we wanted. Something we were ready for.

[Something where she wasn't in a prison cell or handcuffed to a hospital bed. She never thought she'd be with someone who she would just volunteer this information to, but they don't keep anything from each other anymore. Her father mentioned it, she started thinking about it.

And when Emma thought about it, she realized it's a distant possibility. All she wants now is a home she can share with both of the men in her life, but they're not as far away from that as they used to be. Maybe it's okay to consider life beyond returning to Storybrooke.]

Something that felt right.

Do you think I'd be any good at being a father?

( that seems to him to be the variable that is still unknown. he's seen Emma with her son, he thinks she's more than capable. he's raised wolf pups and plenty of puppies but never a human. in fact his childhood was so far from the norm, is he really the best influence on a child? )

[sheriffing]

Yeah, I do.

[ She wouldn't have married him if she didn't feel like he could be a good stepfather to Henry, even if the thought of them having their own kid hadn't crossed her mind. It's not something she's ready for, the conversation probably won't come up again anytime soon, but they've never talked about it before and now that they are - yeah, she feels like they could do this someday.]

I think I'd have a lot to learn. I've not much experience with children.

I watched Henry a few times when he was small, but I always missed the worst of it. luckily he was easily distracted by keys.

( hopefully just the sound, right graham... please dont let the baby suck on dirty keys )

You'll have to tell me more about that later.

[In person, so she can hear what a terror her son was. He probably gets it from her, but she doesn't know what he was like before he turned ten. Who knows what Henry got into as a baby?

We'd both have a lot to learn. And trust me, I'm not saying I expect anything. I'm just not afraid of the possibility of us learning together.

( what else was he gonna shake Emma, doughnuts don't jangle. ngl Henry has probably drooled on his badge though. is that better, as baby appropriate toys go? ...no? )

I'm not sure here is much to tell. He was a better baby than I was a babysitter. I'll try to remember details if you want to hear hem, though.

If that's what our future holds, I'll be ready for it. I don't think there is anything we couldn't face together.
